- "I can't have a normal relationship."
- "I'll never be able to finish school!"
I looked this young lady straight in the eyes and said:
"Yes you CAN keep a job. What you can't do right now is regulate your emotions and your behavioral responses to their intensity...but you can LEARN how to do this with DBT. Once you can master some skills, you will be much better equipped to keep a job. The odds will be more in your favor."
The young woman smiled at me and hugged me.
One interpretation of dreams is that we are all of the characters, and our mind is using the dream space to sort out conflicts we haven't resolved during the day. Maybe I've addressed a long held question involving fears of "can't."
